HOUSTON -- Brock Osweiler has helped the Houston Texans to a 3-1 start. But the quarterback, who is in his first year in Houston, knows he has to clean up his mistakes if the Texans hope to keep winning.A tiebreaking 67-yard punt return by rookie Will Fuller helped Houston overcome two interceptions by Osweiler and get a 27-20 victory over the Tennessee Titans (1-3) on Sunday.Osweiler has thrown six interceptions and just five touchdowns this season. It just boils down to decision-making, and thats something I know I need to be better at, he said. I put the team in some very poor positions, and I know that ... I will make better decisions. I promise you guys that Im going to clean these interceptions up because that football team is working too hard, and they deserve better. Both of his interceptions on Sunday came on passes intended for DeAndre Hopkins on a day when the Titans limited the Pro Bowl receiver to just one reception for 4 yards.Coach Bill OBrien didnt fault Osweiler for trying to get the ball to Hopkins, and said hell look to design better plays to help Osweiler avoid turnovers.I think the guys playing well, OBrien said. I really enjoy coaching this guy. Hes very bright. He works very hard ... I thought overall, with the exception of the turnovers, I thought the guy played a good football game.Osweiler threw touchdown passes on Houstons first two drives on Sunday to give the Texans an early 14-0 lead before the offense stalled. Hes looking for ways to sustain the success the team showed early as they prepare to visit Minnesota next week. Some things we learned from Houstons win over the Titans on Sunday.MARIOTAS MISTAKES: Like Osweiler, Tennessee quarterback Marcus Mariota has more interceptions (five) than touchdowns (four) this season after throwing one interception on Sunday. The interception came when it looked as if he threw the ball directly to Houstons Quintin Demps in the second quarter. It was just a miscommunication on my part, Mariota said. Delanie (Walker) did a great job of just sitting in the hole. Just a bad throw. I should have just put it on him a little more.MCKINNEYS CONTRIBUTION: Houston linebacker Benardrick McKinney had nine tackles to lead the Texans for the second straight week after piling up a career-high 16 stops last week. McKinney, who had 63 tackles as a rookie last season, already has 38 tackles and two sacks this season.WALKER AND WRIGHT RETURN: Walker returned on Sunday after sitting out last week with a right hamstring injury. Walker, who had a career-high 94 catches for 1,088 yards last season, had two receptions for 34 yards on Sunday. The Titans also had receiver Kendall Wright back on Sunday after he missed the first three games with a hamstring injury. Wright finished with two receptions for 14 yards.Mariota was glad to have Wright back.Hes a playmaker for us, Mariota said. The more I give him the ball, the better he gets.FULLERS BIG START: Through four games Fuller , who was the 21st overall pick in the draft, has 19 receptions for 323 yards and two touchdowns to lead all rookies. His punt return was Houstons first for a touchdown since 2013 and he became the first player in franchise history to have a TD reception and a punt return for a score in the same game. Fullers 5-yard touchdown reception made it 14-0 in the first.I know theres a lot of room from improvement from me, he said. So Im just going to continue to try to get better and just keep working.WORKING WITHOUT WATT: Sunday was the first time Houston had played without J.J. Watt since the 2010 season after the star defensive end, who is out for the season after back surgery, had started 83 straight games since being drafted in 2011. Several players, including 2014 top overall pick Jadeveon Clowney and Whitney Mercilus , had solid games on Sunday to lead Houstons defense in his absence. Owner Bob McNair is certainly disappointed to be without last seasons Defensive Player of the Year, but hopes that having so much time to recover will help him in the long run.The good news is maybe he extended his career an extra year or two, McNair said. We will keep up with him and help him in every way we can. We miss him, but others will step up. I think it will give them an opportunity to play. Im looking forward to it.---AP NFL websites: http://pro32.ap.org and http://twitter.com/AP-NFLChad Williams Jersey .Y. - Rob Manfred was promoted Monday to Major League Baseballs chief operating officer, which may make him a candidate to succeed Bud Selig as commissioner. ATLANTA -- After Mike Minor pitched like a rising ace, he tipped his cap to the injured leader of the Atlanta Braves rotation. Minor allowed only one run to give the depleted staff a lift, Jason Heyward homered, and the Braves beat Adam Wainwright and the St. Louis Cardinals 4-1 in a matchup of division leaders on Friday night. Minor (10-5) gave up four hits with no walks in seven innings. His sharp performance came two days after Tim Hudson was lost for the season with a broken right ankle. Minor, who became the first Braves pitcher to reach 10 wins, lowered his ERA to 2.89. His strong start was especially important after Hudsons season ended. Asked if he felt he needed to step up as the staff ace, Minor said, "Thats not really my role. I go out every fifth day and just try to pitch. "With Huddy going down, that was our ace. That was our best guy. We just need everybody else to step it up a little bit." The Atlanta rotation also is without left-hander Paul Maholm, who is expected to miss at least one start because of a bruised left wrist. Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez also resisted suggestions that Minor is emerging as the top pitcher on a young staff that also includes rookies Julio Teheran and Alex Wood. "Lets not get there yet," Gonzalez said. "Mike Minor doesnt have to do anything. Hes been this good for a while. We saw him growing up and getting better and better about this time last year. Lets let him dictate his own career and lets not start putting labels yet." Wainwright (13-6), the NL leader in wins, took his first loss since a 2-1 decision to Texas on June 23. Yadier Molina gave St. Louis a 1-0 lead with his eighth homer in the second inning. The Braves answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Wainwright allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits and one walk in seven innings. He complimented the Braves hitters on their patience in trying for opposite-field hits. "I think I just have to tip my hat," Wainwright said. "I think they had a great approach from the first ppitch of the game on.dddddddddddd "They took some great at-bats off me, worked the counts, and they didnt get pull-happy out there. Really, they hit some tough pitches and worked some tough at-bats. Sometimes you just get beat. I had some pretty good stuff tonight." The Braves took a 2-1 lead with four hits off Wainwright in the second. Brian McCann doubled, moved to third on Dan Ugglas single, and scored on Chris Johnsons single to left field. Minor added a single with two outs to drive in Uggla. Heyward pushed the lead to 3-1 with his eighth homer, a one-out shot to left field, in the fifth. "I got a pitch to hit," Heyward said before adding that Wainwright "made a mistake with a changeup away." With one out in the seventh, and Johnson on first base following his second hit, Joey Terdoslavich pinch-hit for Minor and hit a grounder to shortstop Pete Kozma, who threw wild toward second base. Johnson scored on the error. Jordan Walden pitched a perfect eighth inning before Craig Kimbrel recorded the final three outs for his 29th save. Heyward, sprinting toward the infield from right field, made a diving catch to take a hit away from David Freese in the fifth inning. Heyward rolled and came up holding the ball as Minor slapped his glove in approval on the mound. NOTES: Of Minors 103 pitches, 70 were strikes. ... Attendance was 50,124, a sellout. ...
